George Sands is less socially adept than Mitchell, despite his high IQ. He became a werewolf when on a holiday to Scotland. He went out for a walk with an American tourist, they get lost and when darkness falls they are attacked by a werewolf. The American was killed but George was only scratched when the rescue services found him. It is later revealed that the werewolf who attacked him is a man called Tully who comes looking for him so that he no longer is alone.
George greatly detests his 'condition', always referring his werewolf side as a completely different being (e.g. when he transformed and wrecked the house in "Episode 1.1", he stated he didn't do it the wolf did). He maintains this until "Episode 1.6" when he willingly transforms to kill Herrick, afterwards he finally admits that he and the wolf are basically the same person.
Whilst George transforms. Although this type of transformation takes longer and is more painful. A moon caused transformation takes within 30 seconds to a minute. He maintains the ability to speak during the transformation and he seems to retain some of his humanity, Sometimes it seems George does maintain some control as after he killed Herrick he turned to attack Mitchell and Annie but stops when he see's Nina. George infects Nina she asks him how he go infected,and he replies by saying a scratch but he does not know that she has scratch on her arm, she does not tell him when she checks her arm in the bathroom.
